What’s included, and what should I expect?

Pre session questionnaires to help us identify the main issues

An initial assessment of 90 minutes. Most therapists offer an initial hour assessment. I have however found that most clients need a little longer, especially of they want to get started with some techniques to bring a little relief straight away. I know that by the time you see me you’ve already been struggling for some time and you don’t want to wait until our next session to get started on feeling better. For this reason   I always offer an initial 90 minute session. This should give us plenty of time to find out what has been going on and start to set up some treatment plans.

Further treatment sessions of an hour each. These sessions are completely individualised around your particular issues and goals however expect them to include:

Making sense of what’s been going on. Why you, Why this problem, Why now?

Setting Goals. Knowing what you are aiming for is a key part of treatment. Some people may just want to be able to learn some techniques to manage how they feel and get on with their lives without anxiety interfering in their everyday life. Some people might  know that there are some deeper issues effecting them that they need to heal. Together we will decide what’s important for you.

Managing the physical effects of anxiety. Many people struggle with the huge physic al impact that anxiety has on them. If this sounds like you then we will definitely be addressing this.

Managing the unhelpful thought spirals people can get into. Nearly everyone I see is struggling with managing their thoughts, If your fighting. a battle with your own mind this is something we will get to grips with.

Managing any unhelpful behaviours that have come about because of anxiety, For some people this might be avoidance, giving up things they used to enjoy or it might even be doing things they are not proud of or acting in ways that are not helpful or usual for them. Don’t worry anxiety can make us act in ways that don’t seem like the true us, We will get to the bottom of this and help you crate new helpful habits.

Learning to manage other people and external situations. Unfortunately it’s a fact of life that you may find yourself surrounded by difficult individuals, toxic or stressful situations and life pressures. We will think about how you can manage some of these without overthinking, over stressing and getting yourself caught up in negative spirals.

Talking about our problems with others and expressing our needs. I know that those around you care for you and want to help but I also know that you can have trouble speaking about your feelings and that you don’t want to burden your loved ones. If you need to we will make a plan of how to have a productive discussion with those around you about what you are experiencing and how they can help you in getting better and how to manage when you feel at crisis point.

Self management strategies. Before you finish our package we will talk about how you are going to manage going forward and how to help yourself should any similar issues arise in the future.

Session round ups. After each session I will send you a summary of our discussions, anything key that came up and directions for any tasks that you agreed to do. I know that it’s easy to forget what was discussed in session so these little session round ups will keep you on track.
